About This Course

The diverse, ancient, and enduring artistic traditions of North American Indigenous peoples are an integral part of American history, incorporating specialized housing types, textile designs, ceramics, basketry, and the masterly use of natural materials. In this course, we explore the technical virtuosity, functionality, and spiritual significance of these crafts across various regions, cultures, and generations. Our study spans the unique artistic legacies of the Southwest, Pacific Northwest, Woodlands, and Plains peoples. This course will be recorded. Students will have access to videos for the duration of the course.
